Facebook announced ‘Video on Instagram’ today at their press event in California. The new service is built right in to the current Instagram app for iOS and Android and will compete directly with Vine which is owned by Twitter.
Video on Instagram allows you to take 15 seconds worth of video which you can break into individual clips like with Vine. There are 13 custom video-only filters which you can apply to your videos. Additionally, you can choose what image from the clip shows in the feed when it’s not playing. Finally, Video on Instagram includes a feature called Cinema which takes shaky and unstabilized video and stabilizes it.
Version 4.0 of Instagram for iOS and Android are available now in both the App Store and the Google Play Store.
