The team over at iFixIt took the time today to disassemble the new iPad. As they do with every new Apple device, and others too, they whip out their repair tools and check things out under the hood.
They didn’t really find much that we weren’t already aware of, but some notable discoveries are 1 GB of RAM (and improvement over the 512MB in the iPhone 4S and iPad 2), a Samsung made, 2048 by 1536 Retina display (although they say LG and Sharp will be manufacturing them too), a WiFi chip, a Qualcomm MDM9600 baseband chip with support for LTE, HSPA+, and EV-DO frequencies, and Toshiba flash memory. Also inside is a massive 42.8Whr battery which is about 70 percent larger than it’s predecessor. The A5X chip was found on top of the RAM.
