As rumored and leaked, Apple announced their new Maps application for iOS 6 today at WWDC 2012. The application features a new icon in addition to an improved user interface, 3D maps, and more.
The new Maps application is 100 percent Apple designed and no longer uses Google map data but rather Data from TomTom. It now has turn by turn directions which are spoken out loud by the device. The application provides ETAs based on traffic which is built into the application. The map will display construction work, accidents, and other slowdowns, and will even provide alternate routes if the device finds the current one is no longer the most efficient. There is also a new feature called Flyover which uses the 3D imagery to produce high quality views of major areas which you can move about. You can also ask Siri to navigate to a location.
This is a developing story.
