Youtube removed from iOS 6 beta 4, Apple comments

The built-in Youtube app has been removed from iOS starting in iOS 6 beta 4 which was released to developers today by Apple. First thought to be a bug, the removal of the stock Youtube app was later confirmed by Apple stating the license for the app ended:

Our license to include the YouTube app in iOS has ended, customers can use YouTube in the Safari browser and Google is working on a new YouTube app to be on the App Store.

The application is still built in to all versions of iOS prior to beta 4 (meaning iOS 5, 4, etc) and it’s unlikely they’ll update all the older versions to remove the application. The removal comes at a time where Apple is battling it out in court with Samsung over patent violations and where Apple has also removed all Google mapping data from their stock Maps app in iOS 6 and built their own app from the ground up.
