According to Jeff Huber at Google, the company’s recently released Google Maps for iOS has garnered over 10 million downloads in less than 48 hours of being on the App Store.

We’re excited for the positive reception of Google Maps for iPhone around the world. Congratulations to the Maps Team on the recognition for the passion and hard work they poured into it, for this release and over the last 7+ years.

Google Maps for iOS soared to the number one spot on the chart of top free apps following it’s release. The built-in maps application has been under fire since it’s release after it was realized that the app was sub-par and location data and imagery were found to be mediocre in certain areas.
