Mozilla held a press event at Mobile World Congress 2013 today to show off Firefox OS and discuss partnerships for phones which will launch running the new OS. Firefox OS is based off HTML 5 and does everything you’d expect of a mobile phone / device in this day and age. It’s got the Firefox web browser preloaded and Facebook, Twitter, Pulse News, Soundhound, Cut the Rope, EA Games, AccuWeather and more have already confirmed they’ll be making HTML 5 versions of their apps for Firefox devices.
Deutsche Telekom will be bringing the Alcatel One Touch Fire to market as the first Firefox OS phone. The One Touch Fire will include a 3.5-inch display, a single-core 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, and a 3.2 megapixel camera.
ZTE has also announced the ZTE Open which will also be one of the first Firefox OS phones. It’s an entry-level phone and has a 3.5-inch display, a 3.2 megapixel camera, a 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, and a 1200 mAh battery. The One Touch Fire will launch in Poland during the summer and the ZTE Open will launch in “mid-2013”. LG and Huawei will be launching Firefox OS phones as well.
