Samsung sends out invites for March 14th Unpacked event

Posted by: Brett

In an attempt to steal the spotlight at MWC 2013 today, Samsung began distributing both paper invites (at MWC) and email invites to their first Unpacked event which the company will be holding on March 14th in New York. The invite reads “Ready 4 the show” as well as “Come and meet the next Galaxy“.

A Samsung representative told Reuters that “it will be the first U.S. launch of Samsung’s flagship Galaxy smartphone in three years”. JK Shin, Samsung’s Mobile Head, told Edaily that the company was forced to move the event location to the States after being “bombarded with requests” from US carriers. The Galaxy S IV is expected to launch with a 5-inch 1080p display, either a quad- or octo-core processor with 2GB of RAM, and a 13 megapixel camera.

HTC sent out invites to the press earlier today for an event which they’ll be holding on Tuesday, February 19th in London. The company is also holding a simultaneous event in New York City. Neither invite alludes to what could be announced at either of the two events, but the general consensus is that HTC will announce the oft-leaked M7 smartphone (whether that will be the name or not is yet to be seen) with a new version of Sense.

Facebook has sent invites to the press for an event which they’ll be holding at their corporate headquarters in California on January 15th. The invite lends no clues as to what they’ll be announcing, but it does say to “come and see what we’re building”. The Verge notes that Facebook rarely holds events at their corporate campus so it’s possible it’s something big.

HTC and Verizon have just sent out invites to a press event on November 13th where they’re expected to announce the Droid DNA, a variant of the J Butterfly in Japan. Due to the leaks of the device and the fact that it recently cleared the FCC, it’s overwhelmingly likely this is what the two companies intend to announce.

Originally known as the “DLX”, the Droid DNA is rumored to have a 5-inch 1080p display, a 1.5 GHz quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean, and Sense 4+.

Google sends out invites to October 29th press event

Posted by: Brett

Google has just begun sending out invites to an October 29th press event in the Big Apple with the words “The playground is open.”, a tagline the search company has used for it’s Play Store and Nexus 7 as well as “Join us for an Android event.”. The event is presumed to be to announce Google’s next Nexus device(s) and the event date lines up with previous rumors of an October 29th event / announcement. It’s pretty likely the LG Nexus 4 will be announced at said event, in addition to Android 4.2, and if that’s the case, the Nexus 4 will be one of the worst kept secrets yet as a supposed prototype has already been taken through its paces in a full review.

Either way, we’ll find out on the 29th and fortunately, Google will be live streaming the entire event at www.youtube.com/android.

Apple sends out invites for October 23rd press event, iPad mini likely to be announced

Posted by: Brett

Apple sent out invites earlier today for an October 23rd press event which The Loop notes will be held at the California Theatre in San Jose, unlike past events. It is widely rumored that Apple will be announcing an iPad mini at the event and possibly some new Macs. The iPad mini is rumored to be a scaled down iPad with a 7.85 inch display. It’s also possible that new iPads could be made available with the Lightning port. iPad mini production is said to currently be in full swing.

As for the invite, it doesn’t appear to allude to anything like the iPhone 5 invite did, although some may see the “little” in the invites message “We’ve got a little more to show you.” as an allusion to a smaller iPad.
