Apple: iPhone 5 pre-orders hit 2 million

Posted by: Brett

After telling AllThingsD they were “blown away” by the iPhone 5 demand, Apple released a press release today saying they received 2 million iPhone 5 pre-orders in just 24 hours. If you were to do the math, Apple received roughly 23 iPhones per second.

“iPhone 5 pre-orders have shattered the previous record held by iPhone 4S and the customer response to iPhone 5 has been phenomenal,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing.

AT&T also announced this morning that they set a sales record for iPhone 5, making it “the fastest-selling iPhone the company has ever offered”. Both companies have reminded customers that the device will go on sale this Friday, September 21st and both AT&T stores and Apple stores will be opening at 8am local time on said date.
