LG sends out invites for May 1st press event

Posted by: Brett

LG has started sending out invites to the press for an event they’ll be holding on May 1st in New York City called “Share the Genius”. The invite doesn’t really reveal much at all, but many believe the event will serve to introduce the LG Optimus G Pro to the United States, which was originally announced at MWC in February.

Samsung sends out invites for March 14th Unpacked event

Posted by: Brett

In an attempt to steal the spotlight at MWC 2013 today, Samsung began distributing both paper invites (at MWC) and email invites to their first Unpacked event which the company will be holding on March 14th in New York. The invite reads “Ready 4 the show” as well as “Come and meet the next Galaxy“.

A Samsung representative told Reuters that “it will be the first U.S. launch of Samsung’s flagship Galaxy smartphone in three years”. JK Shin, Samsung’s Mobile Head, told Edaily that the company was forced to move the event location to the States after being “bombarded with requests” from US carriers. The Galaxy S IV is expected to launch with a 5-inch 1080p display, either a quad- or octo-core processor with 2GB of RAM, and a 13 megapixel camera.

Sony to hold PlayStation press event on February 20th

Posted by: Brett

Sony has announced via it’s official Twitter account that it will be holding a press event on February 20th. The company has a site for the event, as well as a video which confirms that the event will be PlayStation-related. While it’d be logical to think that Sony will be announcing the PlayStation 4 at the event, UK newspaper The Times suggested that Sony might be waiting for the competition (Microsoft) to announce their next-gen console before revealing their own. Sony’s VP of Home Entertainment also recently told Emol that “the announcement could take place at that time, or maybe even before, in May” rather than at E3.

The PlayStation 4 is code named “Orbis” and could include eight Jaguar cores running at 1.6 GHz and a GPU based on AMD’s R10XX architecture, and 500GB of storage at launch. The PS4 has been in the rumor mill for awhile now is pretty much expected to compete directly with the next-gen Xbox, code named “Durango”, as the PlayStation has done in the past.

HTC to hold press event on February 19th

Posted by: Brett

HTC sent out invites to the press earlier today for an event which they’ll be holding on Tuesday, February 19th in London. The company is also holding a simultaneous event in New York City. Neither invite alludes to what could be announced at either of the two events, but the general consensus is that HTC will announce the oft-leaked M7 smartphone (whether that will be the name or not is yet to be seen) with a new version of Sense.

Facebook to hold press event on January 15th

Posted by: Brett

Facebook has sent invites to the press for an event which they’ll be holding at their corporate headquarters in California on January 15th. The invite lends no clues as to what they’ll be announcing, but it does say to “come and see what we’re building”. The Verge notes that Facebook rarely holds events at their corporate campus so it’s possible it’s something big.

HTC and Verizon schedule press event for November 13th

Posted by: Brett

HTC and Verizon have just sent out invites to a press event on November 13th where they’re expected to announce the Droid DNA, a variant of the J Butterfly in Japan. Due to the leaks of the device and the fact that it recently cleared the FCC, it’s overwhelmingly likely this is what the two companies intend to announce.

Originally known as the “DLX”, the Droid DNA is rumored to have a 5-inch 1080p display, a 1.5 GHz quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean, and Sense 4+.
