iPhone 5S launch planned for August, new iPads may launch in April

According to iMore, Apple is targeting an August launch for the iPhone 5S and possibly an April launch for new iPads, presumably the iPad 5 and maybe a refreshed iPad mini.

iMore says the iPhone 5S is likely to have the same casing as the current iPhone 5 but will include a better processor and a camera with improved optics. The source says Apple is “seriously considering” an April launch for new iPads, whether it be for a new full-sized iPad, an iPad mini 2, or both. The former is expected to have a brand new casing, resembling that of the iPad mini, while the latter may see a spec bump rather than a Retina display in order to save battery and retain the slim design.

iMore previously reported the correct date for the iPhone 5’s announcement, as well as it’s launch date, well before the event last year, so along with today’s report comes a fair amount of credibility. It is possible that Apple can modify it’s plans at any time so any rumored dates should not be taken as fact.

More details emerge regarding iPad 5, iPad mini 2, iPhone 5S

iLounge posted two reports today with more information regarding the iPad 5, iPad mini 2, and iPhone 5S.

Jeremy Horwitz of iLounge had a chance to look at model of the iPad 5, code named J72, and can say that it will look similar to the iPad mini, right down to the thin side bezels and chamfered edges. He also says IGZO screen technology, a new processor, and significantly reduced weight and thickness will be major aspects of the iPad 5. Their sources say the iPad 5 will launch some time in October rather than March like some had believed.

“[…] it’s a lot smaller than one would guess was possible: in portrait orientation, picture a 9.7” screen with virtually no left or right bezels, and only enough space above and below the screen to accommodate the mandatory camera and Home Button elements. Beyond that, it’s noticeably thinner, as well, which is to say the the fifth-generation iPad will be smaller in every dimension than its predecessors. As it will have the same chamfered edges and curves, calling it a “stretched iPad mini” is very close to entirely accurate […]”

Regarding the iPad mini 2, code named J85, it will supposedly launch in October, the same time the iPad 5 is said to be launching, with a Retina display, although that’s all they’ve heard. iLounge sources are also saying that Apple is targeting a July launch for the iPhone 5S which is going to look almost exactly like the iPhone 5 but will have an upgraded back camera, possibly 13 megapixels, and a processor bump. The device’s current prototypes are code named N51 and N53.

Finally, iLounge says Apple is indeed working on a low-cost iPhone for a launch some time this year as well as a larger iPhone, which was dubbed the “iPhone Math” in a recent rumor. The latter is said to be in early prototyping stages with a 4.7-inch display, and may not even launch at all which wouldn’t be surprising. You can read both reports by following the source links.

Fifth-generation iPad rumored to launch in March with iPad mini design cues

Posted by: Brett

According to Japanese blog Macokatara, Apple is preparing to release a fifth-generation iPad in March. The new model will reportedly be thinner, lighter, and adopt design elements from the iPad mini which could include the diamond chamfered edges, anodized aluminum back, and possibly the speaker design.

According to my inside source, iPad(5th) may be released in March, 2013. Source told that, design of this new iPad will be like iPad mini in detail, and be thinner and lightweight. (The expectation comes to have a small 4mm in height, 17mm in width, depth 2mm).

9to5mac points out that these are not the new dimensions as that would make for a very small iPad, but that they are likely to be subtracted from the current iPad dimensions. This would result in an iPad that is slightly shorter and narrower, but with a thinness like that of the iPad mini.

Having released two generations of the 9.7-inch iPad this year alone, a fifth- generation model being released only 4 months after the fourth-generation would prove that Apple is attempting to move to a more aggressive release pattern.

In addition to releasing a new iPad, Macotakara is also reporting the Apple is gearing up to launch the second-generation iPad mini with a Retina display bearing the same resolution as the 9.7-inch Retina iPad.

Macotakara has a so-so track record, although their report sounds plausible based on other reports, mainly from Digitimes.
